Hey, Let's Go To Las Vegas!

Hey, Let's Go To Las Vegas!

Consider yourself warned-- this file is large! (59mb) Not sure how that happened, but it did. But I blame the bloated filesize on the subject of the video itself: the ever-bloated Las Vegas. It was my first time staying at New York-New York Hotel, which was an odd place, but the whole town is an odd place.

I conned my Mom into a trip to Vegas last year. Neither of us had ever been. I think we were expecting some kitchy, oddball, Elvis-type stuff but were overwhelmed by American tourist families in matching M&M t-shirts, beers you could jet-ski in, and fast food. I think we figured we could just walk around. But everything was so big! Huge hotels set back half-a-mile form the road! And even though it was all oversized, it was also all miniaturized! Tiny NYC. Shrimpy Paris. Little Venice. Mini Luxor. it was as if these tourists figured they didn't have to "see the world" now that they'd seen scaled-down versions of it in Vegas. It WAS Hell. We were across the road at the MGM. Our room was literally a 30 minute walk to the front door. The scale of it all.

BUT, come on. You had a good time in all the hellish heat and Rita Rudner. My Mom was similarly freaked out by here "splits" poster. It's creepy.

The only reason I'd ever go back would be to revisit the Liberace Museum (now THAT'S the Vegas I was after!) and shop at The Attic.

New York, New York...you're a brave, brave man.

I live near Vegas so we go there all the time.

One note: The Luxor hotel is actually BIGGER than the real Giza pyramids (as is the sphinx). Even then, it looks small compared to Mandalay Bay.

By the way, you were in Central Park. Greenwich is the food court. You can find the cheap knock-offs in the Soho shopping area.

Man, I LOVE Vegas. It's so cheesecake. Mike and I go there about three times a year.
